Vaisakhi Di Raat! @ APU

Vaisakhi, also known as the Punjabi New Year, is an important festival which commemorates the establishment of the Khalsa. The ‘Vasakhi Di Raat’ celebration, organized by the Asia Pacific Punjabi Cultural Society (APCS), was held on the 17^th of May 2014 (Saturday). It was labelled as “the biggest event of the year” by APCS, and was held in the Hang Li Po Ballroom of the Mines Wellness Hotel, located in Mines Resort City, Seri Kembangan. This event has attracted over 150 people including local and international students, staff and lecturers, and has taken place from 6pm, up to 12am in the midnight. APU’s senior management, including Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Parmjit Singh, Vice President of Operations, and Mr. Gurpardeep Singh attended this event, together with Mr. Joe Randhawa and Mr. Daljit Singh, who were the main sponsors of the event.

Throughout the celebration, audiences were perfectly entertained with a huge variety of performances, including those from APU students, as well as local performers, “Shan-E-Punjab” and “Dhol INC”. The theme of the night was Indian Dance Music, while Bollywood and Bhangra were given the main focus of the celebration. Guests and performers, regardless of age, culture or nationality, have enjoyed feasting on International and Indian cuisine which were provided that night. Lucky Draw sessions were also being held, together with several stage games which encouraged interactivity between the performers and the audience. The climax of the night took place as the dance floor were open to everyone to demonstrate their awesome dance skills and they eventually became one of the stars of the night. Even alumni who graduated from class of 2005 joined in the fun!

It was a good time for the members of APU to gather and mingle around with one another in this event, and we believe that relationships within the APU community have definitely strengthened through the happening of such meaningful event. Let us hope for more from the Asia Pacific Punjabi Cultural Society (APCS) in the future!
