Recently, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Society of Petroleum Engineers Student Chapter (APU SPE SC), under the guidance of Ms Fatin Ayuni Mohd Suhaimi (Lecturer, School of Engineering at APU), joined the Society of Petroleum Engineers Kuala Lumpur Section (SPE KL) for an insightful industrial visit to Kemaman Supply Base.
The visit aimed to provide students with firsthand exposure to industry operations, enhance their understanding of supply chain management in the petroleum sector, and bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications.
Insights and Exploration at the Offshore Supply Base
As part of the visit, students were given the opportunity to gain deeper insights into the offshore petroleum industry.
The session began with a briefing, providing a comprehensive visual presentation of the history, achievements, and milestones of Kemaman Supply Base.
Following the briefing, students toured the site, observing key logistics and operations that support offshore petroleum activities.
They explored storage facilities, equipment yards, and docking areas where vessels transport essential supplies to oil rigs.
On top of that, students also had the chance to engage in hands-on learning by inspecting specialised machinery and tools used in offshore operations, whilst interacting with experts who shared real-world experiences about working in the oil and gas sector.
A Fulfilling Experience
The students returned with valuable insights into the petroleum industry and a deeper appreciation for offshore operations.
The visit not only enriched their academic knowledge but also paved the way for future industry collaborations.
In a nutshell, it was a transformative experience that provided them with a firsthand understanding of the industry’s complexities and the opportunities that lie ahead in their professional journeys.
