The School of Marketing and Management (SoMM) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) proudly sent a team of talented students to showcase their skills for the first time at the Malaysia Business Event National Challenge 2024 on 22nd August 2024.
Themed “Business Events and Technology with Sustainability,” the competition was organised by the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).
The team comprised Nafiz Abdullah Al Rady (Masters in Global Marketing Management), Muhammad Zakiey Azhar (Masters in International Business Communications), Lim Sy Hao, and Siow Jay Yang, students from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Marketing Management with a specialism in Digital Marketing.
Guided by their mentors, Mr David Ng Kok Meng (Lecturer, SoMM at APU) and Ms Harjinder Kaur (Senior Lecturer, SoMM at APU), the team delivered a compelling business event proposal for the “Medical Tourism Conference 2024,” impressing the judges with their innovative ideas, meticulous planning, and strategic insights.
Their presentation stood out for its creativity and thorough approach, reflecting the students’ deep understanding of the event management landscape.
Although they did not advance to the upcoming Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations (AFECA) Challenge in November, their exceptional performance at the national level demonstrated their capabilities and potential in the competitive business event industry.
APU’s involvement in such competitions continues to provide valuable opportunities for students to engage with real-world challenges, build industry connections, and develop critical skills beyond the classroom.
The team’s dedication and drive, even without advancing to the upcoming AFECA Challenge, have laid a strong foundation for future achievements.
This experience not only underscores the potential of APU’s students in the business event industry but also serves as an inspiration for their peers to pursue excellence in their academic and professional endeavours.
