Cultivating a Greener Tomorrow

The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Society of Petroleum Engineers Student Chapter (APU SPE SC), under the guidance of Dr Wong Siew Fan (Senior Lecturer, School of Engineering at APU), embarked on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mission on 25th May 2024, with the motto “Striving towards a greener future, beyond oil.”

The SPE student chapter from APU teamed up with the Free Tree Society at Taman Tugu for a memorable tree planting event that blended education with profound fulfilment.

The day commenced with a forest tour guided by an expert, immersing students in the marvels of diverse plant life and underscoring the imperative of preserving these ecosystems.

This immersive introduction set the stage for hands-on activities, as students eagerly collaborated under expert guidance, preparing soil and gaining a profound appreciation for the nurturing process of new life through seed planting techniques.

The highlight was each student planting a seed, witnessing firsthand the tangible impact of their efforts.

Dr Wong lauded the students for their unwavering dedication, praising their remarkable commitment to shaping a more sustainable future.

“This initiative not only raised environmental consciousness but also nurtured a strong sense of community within APU SPE SC.

“Moreover, through their tree-planting efforts, these aspiring petroleum engineers have created a lasting legacy that will enrich the local ecosystem for generations, embodying exceptional environmental stewardship and motivation,” she said.

Student Perspectives

Levi Louis Mark shared his enthusiasm for participating in the tree planting event with his peers and Dr Wong, describing the experience as not only enjoyable but also deeply rewarding, as he felt he was making a tangible and positive difference for the planet.

Sami Iqbal Sufi found participating in the tree planting event deeply inspiring, noting the dedication to creating a greener future and the satisfaction of knowing that his team’s efforts would benefit future generations with shade and clean air.

Divvya Kouyuska cherished the tree planting event with her peers as a delightful blend of collaborative teamwork, heightened environmental consciousness, and memorable moments of fun, eagerly looking forward to future opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the planet’s well-being.
