APU’s SoMM students visited Proton City plant, witnessing cutting-edge tech and Proton’s quality focus; gained hands-on knowledge of the entire production cycle, from engine assembly to stamping, inspiring potential automotive careers.
School of Marketing and Management (SoMM) students from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) embarked on an enriching industrial visit to Proton City, Tanjung Malim, Perak manufacturing plant recently.
Led by Senior Lecturer Ms. Harjinder Kaur, a trip to Proton’s state-of-the-art production facility bridged the gap between theory and real-world application for students.
The visit commenced with a safety briefing, followed by a tour that left them awestruck by the high-tech engine assembly line, offering a glimpse into the future of car manufacturing.

This marvel of engineering produces Proton’s new 1.5L TGDi engine, the first assembled outside of China, testament to Proton’s capability in building reliable high-quality products.
The use of automation and Industry 4.0 technologies like robotics throughout the production process fascinated the students as they observed engine parts being assembled with precision and efficiency.
The tour encompassed the stamping area, whereby Mr. Muhammad Raziman Abd. Razak, Sr. Engineer of Production Operation (Stamping) became their tour guide to provide details on stamping process.

SoMM students witnessed the transformation of raw metal into car body parts using the largest mechanical press in Malaysia with an impressive 83% automation level, achieved with the help of nimble robots, highlighted Proton’s dedication to efficiency.
Students also had the opportunity to learn about the rigorous quality control procedures employed by Proton as they witnessed the meticulous attention to detail solidified their understanding of how quality is not just a standard, but a core value at Proton.
A Journey of Excellence
According to Ms. Harjinder, the visit aimed to “Further strengthen the industrial networks and enhance students’ industrial exposures” by immersing themselves in the real world of car manufacturing, “Students were able to connect the dots between theoretical concepts learned in class and practical applications.”
This experiential learning opportunity not only fostered a deeper understanding of the entire production cycle but also sparked career aspirations in the automotive industry.
Digital Marketing students like Sabrina Mazhar, Nurfatihah Monjurul Alam, and Maria Neftali Garvida Wong all expressed how the visit provided valuable insights and solidified their interest in pursuing careers in this dynamic field.
The industrial visit concluded with a group photo session and the exchange of tokens of appreciation.
