AmBank Group, through its entities AmBank (M) Berhad, AmBank Islamic Berhad, and AmInvestment Bank Berhad has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), enabling sharing of knowledge and expertise, providing meaningful internship experiences and career opportunities with the Bank.
The agreement was signed by AmBank Group’s Chief Operations Officer Datuk Iswaraan Suppiah and APU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ho Chin Kuan witnessed by AmBank Head of Human Resource Business Partner and Organisation Design & Talent Management Ms. Victoria Quake Ai Fang and APU Chief Innovation & Enterprise Officer Prof. Ir. Eur. Ing. Ts. Dr. Vinesh Thiruchelvam.
Datuk Iswaraan emphasised AmBank’s commitment to supporting APU through this collaboration and the opportunity to strengthen the resilience of APU students post-pandemic, given that the banking, finance and technology sectors play an important role in Malaysia’s economic development.
He confirmed that AmBank’s 40 years of experience supporting Malaysia’s economic growth would be shared with APU students, citing the MoU as a reflection of their commitment to drive innovation and transform the banking industry through collaboration with industry partners and academic institutions.
“Our proposal to the next generation of leaders is that by joining AmBank, they can experience the best of both worlds. We offer the stability and security of an established and trusted financial institution, while also providing unparalleled opportunities for learning and professional growth through the use of cutting-edge technologies and the exploration of new ideas and solutions for the financial industry. This collaboration will not only benefit our customers, but also contribute to the development of the banking industry in Malaysia.
“We believe that this collaboration can help APU students achieve their full potential and connect them to a wider range of banking, financial, and technology solutions, particularly in the area of digital innovation, which can promote greater performance and sustainability,” he said.
Nurturing Graduates With 100% Employability
Despite a global pandemic, widespread lockdowns, and rapidly changing employer demands, APU has always practised the ‘new normal’, focusing on digital transformation as a core principle in the evolution of employer and student engagement across the School of Computing (SoC), School of Technology (SoT), School of Engineering (SoE), School of Business (SoB), School of Marketing & Management (SoMM), School of Accounting & Finance (SoAF), School of Mathematics & Quantitative Studies (SoMQS), and School of Media, Arts & Design (SoMAD).
APU alumni’s success is a result of persistence, resourcefulness, and hard work, as well as a purposefully planned academic with our Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) strategy, which has led them to pursue their passions in the public, private, and social sectors or create their own entrepreneurial endeavours around the world.
APU has consistently led the way in producing global talent for the workforce through tech education because of its tenacity in anticipating emerging technologies with a strategic, forward-thinking mindset.
“We believe that this strategic partnership with AmBank will take a new step for us to build strong industrial development through meaningful training experiences, diversity, enhanced competitiveness, enlarging the banking, financial, and technology ecosystem, fostering inclusive and sustainable high economic growth, increasing industry training experience, and better career opportunities for our students,” said Prof. Ho.
The internship experiences and career opportunities with AmBank are available to APU students from all schools and will be managed by APU Digital Career Centre (APUDCC), which connects and engages with over 12,000 global talent partners to ensure that APU’s graduates are highly employed in both local and international corporations, as it closely supports APU students in both internships and career placement activities.
Profiles of students pursuing internships at the Bank will be provided to AmBank by APUDCC, and upon acceptance, students will work for the bank for a period of time to be determined later.
Additionally, AmBank agrees to collaborate with APU to provide opportunities for qualified graduates to be hired by the Bank. In this regard, APU agrees to take steps to enable the Bank to access qualified candidates from the APU student talent pool in accordance with the conditions laid out by the Bank. The Bank will have complete discretion in deciding whether to interview and choose applicants.
