APU’s Student Won 2 Gold Awards + 2 Special Awards At AIINEX 2021

With his final year project (FYP) – “Woccupancy:  A Washroom Occupancy Tracking & Hygiene Monitoring System”, Dooshyant Rai Kallychurn, a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Software Engineering student at APU, recently won two Gold Awards and two Special Awards at the Asia International Innovation Exhibition 2021 (AIINEX 2021).


 
“Wocuppancy”, a Final Year Project incorporates IoT, Data Analytics, a mobile application, and a couple of hardware, functioned as a washroom occupancy rate tracking and hygiene monitoring system, and addresses the issue of long queues and unhygienic conditions of public or shared washrooms.

Apart from providing users with a remote indication of the occupancy rate and hygiene status of the nearest washrooms around them, “Woccupancy” also provides a reporting system and a traffic monitoring system to assist in deploying cleaners when and where needed.

Mentored by Ts. Dr. Vinothini Kasinanthan, Senior Lecturer of the School of Computing, Dooshyant’s invention aims at delivering a revolutionised and more pleasant washroom experience for users in highly active environments such as shopping malls, universities, airports, and others.

At this Asia level competition organised by Connecting Academia Society & Industry Alliance (Connecting ASIA), a research network that creates a partnership between academia and industry, Dooshyant bagged the gold award in the Online Project Presentation and Innovation Video Challenge rounds respectively.  

On top of that, he won two Special Awards – by the Association of Professional Researchers and Academicians (The APRA) and by the Universiti Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC).
